Philadelphia, PA- Philadelphia University longtime women's basketball assistant coach Paul Stadelberger has officially accepted the head coaching position at the University of the Sciences-Philadelphia, as announced by USP Athletic Director Robert Morgan. Stadelberger served as a PhilaU women's hoops assistant coach for 20 years under head coach Tom Shirley.
"I had a great opportunity at PhilaU to coach with my good friend and mentor Tom Shirley for 20 years," said Stadelberger. "After 20 years, I have another great opportunity- this time to become a head coach."
Stadelberger will become the Lady Devil's fifth head coach in program history.
The Lady Devils compete in the same league and division as the Lady Rams- the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) South Division. USP went 15-13 and 12-6 in the CACC last season, finishing in third place in the South just behind PhilaU. Stadelberger replaces former head coach Nate Ware, who held the position for the past eight years.
"I want to thank everyone at PhilaU for all good memories and many wins," said Stadelberger.
Prior to joining Shirley in 1989, Stadelberger served as assistant men's basketball coach at Haverford College for six years.
Stadelberger received his Bachelor of Arts degree in education from Concordia (NY) College, where he was a member of both the football and basketball teams. Stadelberger received his Masters in special education degree from Arcadia University (then Beaver College) in 1978. He is currently the principal of the New Foundation's Charter School in Northeast Philadelphia. He and his wife, Barbara, have three children: Paul, Beth and Steve.
