Womens Hoops Brings in Three Recruits
Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University women’s basketball team will add three newcomers to their roster for the 2010-11 season. Athletic Director and Women’s Basketball Head Coach Tom Shirley has announced that Samantha Morris, Francesca Edmondson and Jaclyn Panichi will be joining the Lady Rams this fall.
“The addition of Sam, Fran and Jaclyn will help our team fill the void left by a great group of graduating seniors,” said Shirley.
Samantha Morris finished her Deptford High School career having scored 1,933 points, breaking the school record. The 5-9 shooting guard was a McDonalds All-American nominee this year and was named to nearly every post-season team imaginable, including 1st Team Group 3 South Jersey, 1st Team All-Conference and the Philadelphia Inquirer All South Jersey. She was also tabbed the Gloucester County ‘Player of the Year’.
Francesca Edmondson comes to the Lady Rams after playing a year at Springside High School. Previously, the 6-1 center/forward attended Christchurch Girls High School in New Zealand. Edmondson played in the ISAA basketball game while at Springside, and earned team MVP honors for two years at Christchurch. She also played for the New Zealand U16 team.
Jaclyn Panichi comes to PhilaU from Henderson High School in West Chester, PA. The 5-7 guard was a four-year varsity hoopster at Henderson and also played varsity volleyball.
The Lady Rams kick off the 2010-11 season on Thursday (11/18) at home vs. Washington Adventist University- time is TBA.
