Mike West enters his second season as an assistant coach for the Philadelphia University women’s basketball team. In his role, West is responsible for opponent scouting and creating scouting reports, game strategy, off-season workouts, practice layouts, and recruiting.
He joins the Rams’ staff after one year as the head JV and assistant varsity boy’s basketball coach at Upper Perkiomen High School in Pennsburg, Pa. West created and implemented the strength and conditioning program and worked with the players to develop their skills.
West was an assistant varsity and JV boy’s basketball coach at North Penn High School in Lansdale, Pa. from 2006 until 2008. He was responsible for the Knights’ strength and conditioning program, and contacted collegiate coaches and coordinated and participated in college visits to help his players get recruited. West also scouted opponents, broke down game film, and provided plays for in-game situations.
From 2004 to 2008, West was a staff member at the Mike Fergus Basketball Camp in Lansdale. He was responsible for camp registration, managed camp finances, and organized daily routines for the players during the three-week summer camp.
West is a 2006 graduate of Lebanon Valley College—where he earned Mid-Atlantic Athletic Conference All-Academic team recognition, and helped the Dutchmen reach the second round of the 2005 NCAA Division III Tournament—with a B.A. in history.
