PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University women's lacrosse team opened its 2013 season with a 19-3 loss to No. 1 LIU Post on Tuesday afternoon on Ravenhill Field.
Junior midfielder Libby Nichols (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) scored Philadelphia's (0-1) first goal of the season at the 26:08 mark of the first half to make the score 2-1. Nichols added a team-high four ground balls.
With 11:28 left in game, sophomore attack Allison Brian (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) got on the scoresheet for the Rams. Junior midfielder Carli DiCioccio (Bordentown, N.J./Northern Burlington) set up Brian's first goal of the season. Junior defender Melissa Styer (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) scored the team's final goal on a free-position shot with 5:47 to play.
Samantha Losco paced the Pioneers (2-0) with five goals and one assist. Katie Rotan scored four times, while Morgan Chiarenza and Ashley Olen recorded hat-tricks.
Jackie Sileo dished out nine assists.
Freshman Felicia Branagan (Millville, N.J./Millville) made three saves, picked up four ground balls, and caused three turnovers in net for Philadelphia. Sophomore Kristen Moran (Walden, N.Y./Valley Central) added two saves.
LIU Post's Dominique Mosca stopped four shots. The Pioneers outshot the Rams, 31-9.
Philadelphia heads to New York for a showdown with No. 5 Adelphi on Saturday, March 9 at 3 p.m.
