PHILADELPHIA – Sophomore attack Allison Brian (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) scored five goals to help the Philadelphia University women's lacrosse team defeat Kutztown, 9-6, in a non-conference match Tuesday afternoon on Ravenhill Field.
Philadelphia extends its winning streak to five as it improves to 11-4 overall. Kutztown dips to 2-10.
The Golden Bears got out to a 2-0 lead in the opening 6:11 on goals by Brielle Dickey and Gina Carmina.
Brian started her scoring onslaught as she scored two goals in a 5:36 span to tie the game at two with 15:01 left in the half. Senior defender Ellen Wright (Salem, Va./Salem) assisted on the first goal, while sophomore attack Lauren Hartman (Sewell, N.J./Our Lady of Mercy) got the helper on the tying goal.
After Katie Feairheller put Kutztown back in front, Brian netted the final two goals of the first half to give Philadelphia a 4-3 at the break.
With the Rams ahead 5-4, junior midfielder Libby Nichols (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) and Brian recorded back-to-back goal to extend the gap to 7-4 with 14:44 to play.
Freshman Liz Mower (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) scored Philadelphia's final two goals.
Mower finished the game with two goals, two assists, and one draw control. Nichols recorded one goal, one assist, six draw controls, four ground balls, and three caused turnovers. Wright contributed a goal at the 29:37 mark of the second half.
Carmina paced the Golden Bears with three goals, while Dickey added two goals, one assist, and one draw control.
In goal, sophomore Kristen Moran (Walden, N.Y./Valley Central) made five saves for Philadelphia. Kutztown's JoAnn McLaughlin recorded eight stops. The Rams owned a 31-14 shot advantage.
Philadelphia concludes its home schedule with a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match against Wilmington (Del.) on Wednesday, April 17 at 4:30 p.m.
