CRCA Announces 2011 Scholar-Athletes, Two PhilaU Rowers Named
Philadelphia, PA- The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) announced that two Philadelphia University women’s rowers- senior Caitlin Connors and junior Casey Watrous- were named to the 2011 CRCA Scholar-Athlete All Star team. The student-athletes had to meet CRCA criteria to earn the award, including a cumulative 3.5 GPA or higher.
“I’m very proud of the accomplishments of both Caitlin and Casey, said PhilaU Head Rowing Coach Chris O’Brien. “It’s a true testament to their work ethic that they can be exceptional both on the water and in the classroom. These two student-athletes epitomize the NCAA DII model of life in the balance.”
Connors, PhilaU’s first women’s rowing recruit,
rowed in the V8 this season as her squad took third in the petite
final at the Dad Vail Regatta. The V8 also took second-place
in the Murphy Cup, third-place in the Kerr Cup and the team was
ranked #2 in the east region during the regular season.
Watrous also rowed in the V8 this season with Connors. She
has competed in two NCAA National Championships (’09 in
Cherry Hill, NJ and ’10 in Gold River, CA) with Connors and
helped the team to numerous solid outings.
