PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University women's rowing team will make its first NCAA Division II Championship appearance since 2010 after the Varsity 8 team received an at-large bid into the championship field Monday afternoon. The 2015 NCAA Championship will take place from Friday, May 29 through Sunday, May 31 at the Sacramento State Aquatic Center in Gold River, Calif.
The Rams will make their fourth appearance in the championship, the second as at-large varsity 8. Philadelphia made the field as an at-large 8 in 2008 and the full team qualified for the championship in 2009 and 2010.
The four teams selected to compete for the national championship are Barry University, University of Central Oklahoma, Humboldt State University, and Mercyhurst University. Nova Southeastern University was the other at-large Varsity 8 boat picked to participate.
The Rams will be in lane three for the first heat, which is slated for May 29 at 11:10 a.m. Barry and Central Oklahoma join Philadelphia in the heat. Mercyhurst, Humboldt State, and Nova Southeastern make up heat two, scheduled to go off at 11:20 a.m. on the 29th.
The winner of each heat advances to the grand final on May 31 at 10 a.m. The remaining boats compete in a repechage race on May 30 at 10:30 a.m. The top two boats in the repechage qualify for the grand final.
