Petruzzi, Hall, Earn Daktronics Women's Soccer All-Region Accolades

Senior defender Michele Petruzzi (Mount Laurel,
N.J./Holy Cross) and junior goalkeeper Sara Hall
(Newark, Del./Charter School of Wilmington; shown) were named to
the 2007 Daktronics Division II Women's Soccer Northeast All-Region
teams with Petruzzi earning first-team accolades while Hall was a
second-team selection. This marks the second consecutive year
that both Petruzzi and Hall were tabbed All-Region, as they earned
the same first and second-team honors after the 2006 season,
respectively.
Petruzzi (right), a four-year starter for Head Coach George
Dunbar, started 20 of 21 games this season, helping the
team to a 14-7 overall record. She was instrumental in
leading a defensive corps that allowed just 0.99 goals per game
with an astonishing 12 of their 14 victories being shutouts.
As additional testament to their oustanding defense, Philadelphia
University out-shot their opponents in 2007 by a margin of 316-175,
as the Lady Rams went to their second straight Central Atlantic
Collegiate Conference (CACC) championship game after a 10-1 regular
season in the league. For her efforts, Petruzzi garnered CACC
first-team All-Conference accolades for a second consecutive season
after earning second-team honors in 2005 as a sophomore.
Petruzzi also was named to the All-Tournament team following the
Lady Rams' runner-up finish in the CACC championship.
The chief benefactor of Petruzzi's superb defensive play once again
was goalkeeper Hall (below, left), who appeared in all 21 games for
the Lady Rams, making 20 starts. Hall allowed just 0.93 goals
per game while notching six solo shutouts and sharing six others
with true freshman understudy Kristen Mauro
(Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert). Hall had 13 victories for the
Lady Rams in 2007 and was named CACC second-team All-Conference,
after earning first-team honors as a sophomore in 2006. After
three seasons with Philadelphia University, Hall is tied for the
all-time record in school history in victories (35), and shutouts
(20) while her 0.96 career goals-against-average is the second-best
mark in school history.
Dunbar had nothing but high praise for his two All-Region
performers, "I've known Michelle since she was playing at the high
school and club level and I've never seen her get beat one-on-one,
even in practice. Her defensive play is second-to-none.
With Sara, our backs are actually able to take risks and
aggressively push the ball downfield, knowing that she's behind
them with support in the net. She is our field general,
aligning the defense in the proper position. Without
question, both Michelle and Sara set the tone for our entire
team. We can't have solid goalkeeping without solid defense,
and vice versa."
The Lady Rams soccer team concludes their 2007 season on Saturday,
November 10th in the ECAC Division II Championship match at
CACC-rival Georgian Court University. The game against the
Lions is set to kickoff at 1:00 p.m. in Lakewood, N.J.
