Senior Day for Women's Soccer

Today at Ravenhill Field, the Philadelphia University
Women's Soccer team-currently ranked #6 in the NCAA Division II New
England Region-hosted Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC)
foe Goldey-Beacom College for their final regular season home match
of the year. The Lady Rams downed the Lightning 3-0, and a special halftime presentation
(pictured right) honored three graduating seniors on the team,
co-captain defender Michelle Petruzzi, fellow
co-captain midfielder/forward Amanda Tagland and
midfielder/forward Melissa McMullen.
In addition, Director of Athletics Tom Shirley
presented Head Coach George Dunbar with a
commemorative plaque (shown below) for reaching the century mark in
career victories on Saturday, October 13th when Philadelphia
University topped Post by the same 3-0 margin. Dunbar, the most
decorated coach in University history, to date has recorded an
all-time record of 103-54-21 as the Lady Rams are set to close out
his ninth season at the helm, hopefully with a strong run in the
CACC postseason and a chance for a bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Coach Dunbar may be sad to see his distinguished trio of seniors
set to end their collegiate soccer careers, graduate from the
University and embark on their future careers. He said that,
"[Tuesday was] like watching three of my own daughters play their
final home game." At the same time, Dunbar expressed
tremendous satisfaction over seeing his three charges, whom he has
known practically since their youth-league days, mature as
students, student-athletes and strong young women.
Perhaps the best news is that the win over Goldey-Beacom is most
likely not the final home game for the women's soccer team
this season, as their sterling 12-4 overall record (10-0 in the
CACC) has solidified their position to host a first-round CACC
tournament match, next Tuesday, October 30th at 2:30 p.m. at
Ravenhill Field. The Lady Rams will host either
seventh-seeded Caldwell College or eighth-seeded Nyack
College. The opponent will be determined by the outcome of
the crucial and final regular-season CACC game of the year on
Thursday, October 25th at 4:00 p.m. at cross-town rival Holy Family
University. The winner of that match earns the top seed in
the conference tournament and the right to host Nyack.
