Womens Soccer Advances to CACC Semifinals in 3-2 Win over Dominican
Philadelphia, PA- Senior Brianna Reinford (Gilbertsville, PA/ Pottsgrove) scored the game-winner as #1 ranked Philadelphia University (10-6-4, 8-0-3 CACC) battled to a 3-2 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament quarterfinal win over #8 Dominican College (6-11-1, 5-5-1 CACC) on Monday.
PhilaU advances to the CACC semifinal match on Wednesday (11/5) at 12:00 p.m. vs. #4 Caldwell- who was a 1-0 winner over #5 Nyack. The match will be played at Plymouth-Whitemarsh High School, hosted by Chestnut Hill College.
The Lady Rams outshot DC 25-10, and held an 8-2 corner kick advantage.
The Chargers gave PhilaU a helping hand early on, as an own goal gave the Lady Rams a 1-0 lead just 39 seconds into regulation.
DC's Margaret Porter went on a run late in the first half, scoring two goals to give her Chargers a 2-1 lead at the half.
With a bid to the CACC semifinals on the line, the Lady Rams played with renewed intensity in the second half, getting a goal at 54:10 from senior Stephanie Filmyer (Harleysville, PA/ Souderton), off a corner kick from sophomore Sara Redka (Williamsport, PA/ Williamsport) to tie it 2-2.
Reinford chipped in her game-winner at 59:13, assisted by junior Jill Sokolski (Philadelphia, PA/ Nazareth Academy).
PhilaU senior goalie and ‘CACC Player of the Year' Sara Hall (Newark, DE/ Wilmington Charter) had seven saves, while DC's Rosa Centurion made 12 stops.
