Cascio’s Golden-Goal Lifts Rams to 3-2 2OT Win

Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University women's soccer team (9-4-3, 9-2 CACC) got their second double-overtime win this season in a thrilling 3-2 victory over Dominican College (8-6, 5-5 CACC) on Senior Day on Saturday afternoon at Ravenhill Field.

Seniors Natalie Vespe and Sara Redka were honored in a pre-game ceremony.

DC got on the board first with a score by Olivia Antonopoulos at 20:48.  The Lady Rams tied it up with a 20-yarder from sophomore midfielder Melissa Copeland with less than two minutes in the first stanza to tie it at 1-1 at halftime.

In the second half, PhilaU freshman defender Nicole Van Bourgondien chipped in a cross from Copeland to go up 2-1, but the Chargers played the role of spoiler, knocking in the equalizer with 2:26 left to send the match into OT on a Mackenzie Riley goal.

After playing through a scoreless first OT, PhilaU freshman forward Janine Cascio scored the golden-goal to win it for the Rams just three minutes into the second extra period on a cross from Van Bourgondien.

PhilaU sophomore keeper Kelli Kowalewski had four saves while DC's Kari Spicer made eight stops for her squad.

The Rams continue action on Tuesday (10/26) at West Chester University at 6:30 p.m. under the lights.
