Victory, Sweet Victory: Women’s Tennis Wins CACC Title vs. Holy Family

Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University women's tennis team (14-2, 7-0 CACC) won the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship in a 5-3 nail biter over Holy Family University (10-4, 6-1 CACC) on Thursday afternoon at Chestnut Hill College.  The Lady Rams will go on to compete in NCAA Regionals, date and site to be determined.

The match came down to the final two players on the court and Phila U. sophomore #2 singles Daniela Rodriguez (Quito, Ecuador/Colegio Menor) clinched the victory for her Lady Rams in three sets 1-6-, 6-3, 6-4 over Quena Borres.

"I had no idea the match was down to either Steph (Reinke) or me when I was in the third set," said Daniela Rodriguez.  "It feels so good to win- last year we watched Holy Family get the trophy, but this time it was our turn," she said.

The victory was the first CACC championship for head coach Marty Gilbert and the Lady Rams, as Holy Family had beaten the Lady Rams the past two years in the title match.   Last year the Tigers swept Phila U. 5-0 for the championship.

The Lady Rams got the other wins from sophomore #1 Adriana Rodriguez (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Colegio Sagrados Corazones) in three sets, and she teamed with D. Rodriguez to win their #1 doubles contest.  Freshmen Christina Brzozowski (Wallingford, CT/ Sacred Heart Academy) and Sarah Harris (West Chester, PA/West Chester East) both won their singles matches for Phila U.
