PhilaU Mens & Womens Tennis Notches Wins over Rider
Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University women's tennis team (4-1, 1-0 CACC) got a close 5-4 win over NCAA Division I Rider University (0-1) on Sunday afternoon. The men's team (1-0, 0-0 CACC) opened their fall season with a 7-2 romp over the Broncs (0-1).
Four PhilaU women's singles players got victories, sealing the win for the Lady Rams were #1 junior Daniela Rodriguez (Quito, Ecuador/ Colegio Menor), #4 sophomore Brittany Villa (Logan, NJ/ Kingsway), #5 freshman Stephanie Miller (Fleetwood, PA/ Fleetwood) and #6 junior Sarah Harris (West Chester, PA/ W. Chester East).
On the men's side, sophomore #1 singles Adrian Torroella-Cruz (Gainesville, FL/ Gainesville) got a 6-3, 6-4 win and #2 and #3 singles players freshman Kyle Burke (Wakefield, RI/ South Kingstown) and sophomore Ryan Christopher (Pottstown, PA/ Pottstown) combined to give up just three games in their singles matches.
The women return to action as they host Post University on Wednesday (9/16) at 3:30 p.m. The men next play on Thursday (9/17) vs. Le Moyne at 3 p.m.
