Women’s Tennis Tops Division I Rider, 5-4

Lawrenceville, NJ- The Philadelphia University women's tennis team (10-9, 5-4 CACC) traveled to Division I Rider University (3-15, 0-6 MAAC) Friday and came out on top, 5-4. Playing solid at the #2 singles spot for the Rams was freshman Sayre Limburg who wrapped up her match quick with a 6-0, 6-3 victory.

The Rams split the singles with the Broncs 3-3.

Freshman Isabella Espinosa finished at the #1 singles spot with a 6-2, 6-1 win. A tough battle was held in the #3 slot as junior Brittany Villa found herself down early and then strung a comeback in the second set. With the third set decision going to Rider, Villa fought back to 6-1 and took the point for PhilaU.

Espinosa and Villa then joined forces at the #1 doubles position for an 8-2 defeat of Rider. The Rams then saw the matchup of Limburg and Elizabeth Verbits claim an 8-1 topping of Rider to give PhilaU the point for doubles competition (NCAA Division 1 rules).

The NCAA Division I win marks the end of the 2010-11 season for women's tennis. Highlights of the season include several CACC awards including Espinosa getting the nod as CACC 'Rookie of the Year'.
