RADNOR, Pa. – The Philadelphia University women's tennis team finished its fall season on a high note as the Rams defeated host Cabrini, 7-2, in a non-conference match Tuesday afternoon.
Philadelphia ends the fall with an overall record of 8-4, 5-0 in non-conference play.
The Rams had a 2-1 lead after doubles play thanks to victories at No. 1 and No. 2. Jala Hamada (Giza, Egpyt/Dar El-Tarbia, IGSCE) and Anna Kudriavtceva (Yekaterinburg, Russia/Grammar School No. 13) teamed up for an 8-2 victory at No. 1 over Terra McHenry and Elena Conway. In the No. 2 flight, Emily Chung (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Mira Costa) and Usha Baublitz (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) were 8-0 winners against Nicole Broccolino and Maggie Javitt.
Kudriavtceva won her first match as the Rams' top singles player this season, defeating McHenry 6-0, 6-1. Hamada was also a 6-0, 6-1 winner at No. 2 over Conway.
In the No. 3 flight, Baublitz picked up a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Tori Yeich to improve her record to 7-3. Mariana Sampaio claimed the No. 5 match, 8-0 over Kimberly Pepenella.
Sampaio and Hamada end the fall tied for the team lead in singles victories with nine each.
Tabitha Porter knocked off Kaite Muska 8-2 in the No. 6 flight to move her fall record to 6-4.
Cabrini is now 9-7.
