Philadelphia, PA- Philadelphia University had five student-athletes earn Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) awards for their outstanding performances this past week.
Cross country freshman Sarah Simonetti (Perkasie, PA/ Pennridge) was named both CACC Player and Rookie of the Week after taking second-place at the Wilmington University Invitational. Simonetti's time of 20:28 is the second best time by any Phila U./ Textile female runner.
Junior men's cross country runner Shawn D'Andrea (Blackwood, NJ/ Paul VI) was named CACC Runner of the Week after winning the Wilmington Invitational men's five mile race in 28:28- a new meet and course record.
Women's tennis #2 singles Daniela Rodriguez (Quito, Ecuador/Colegio Menor) earned CACC Player of the Week honors. She currently holds a 3-1 record at second singles this season. This past week she did not giving up a game vs. Caldwell 6-0, 6-0 and got a win over Shippensburg 6-1, 6-3. At first doubles (3-1) she has been nearly unstoppable, teamed up with Adriana Rodriguez to give up just one game last week with 8-0 and 8-1 victories.
Freshman women's tennis player Christina Brzozowski (Wallingford, CT/ Sacred Heart Academy) was named CACC Rookie of the Week as she finished last week undefeated (2-0) at both #3 singles and #2 doubles, giving up just four games in singles and five games in doubles competition.
Also earning CACC Honorable Mention were volleyball's Nicole Berkstresser (Bridgewater, NJ/ Bridgewater-Raritan) and men's soccer goalkeeper Charles Custer (Cinnaminson, NJ/ Cinnaminson).
