Philadelphia XC Men Take 1st, Women 2nd at Wilmington
Wilmington, DE- The Philadelphia University men's cross country team tallied 45 points en route to the Wilmington University Invitational XC championship on muddy course Saturday morning. Junior Shawn D'Andrea (Blackwood, NJ/ Paul VI) led the way, winning the race in 28:28- a new meet and course record.
The women's team also fared well with a runner-up finish behind Ursinus, with help from a second-place finish by freshman Sarah Simonetti (Perkasie, PA/ Pennridge) in 20:28- the second best time by any Phila U. / Textile female runner.
Other top finishers for the men included: fifth-place junior Kirk Tencate (Wayne, NJ/ Wayne Valley) in 30:06 and ninth-place sophomore Schneider Elessaint (Maplewood, NJ/ Columbia Senior) in 30:29.
The women had top performances by: ninth-place freshman Gabrielle Dei Tos (Freeland, PA/ MMI Prep) in 21:42 and at 16th-place sophomore Kaitlin O'Leary (Marlton, NJ/ Cherokee) in 22:07.
Next week the Phila U. squads will compete at the Philadelphia Metro Championships, the women will run at 12:15 p.m., men at 1:00 p.m.
