NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Philadelphia University women's cross country and track runner Taylor Falvey (York, Pa./York Catholic) was been selected as the 2014-15 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The announcement was made by the conference office on Thursday.
For being named the CACC Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Falvey is eligible for the NCAA Division II Conference Commissioners Association Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award. This is the second year in a row that a Philadelphia University female student-athlete was tabbed the CACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Former women's lacrosse player Libby Nichols claimed the award last year.
During the cross country season, Falvey earned All-CACC recognition with a third-place finish at the CACC Championship on Nov. 2 to help the Rams win their sixth conference title in the last seven years. She posted top-five finishes at the Philadelphia Metropolitan Championship (2nd), Wilmington University Cross Country Invitational (3rd), and Jack Saint Clair Memorial Championship (5th). In track, Falvey claimed the conference champion in the 5,000-meter run and the 10,000-meter run on her way to the CACC Women's Track Athlete of the Year award. She was also victorious in the 5,000 at the Collegiate Track Conference Championship.
A health sciences major with a 3.95 grade-point average, Falvey was named to the 2014-15 Capital One Academic All-America Division II Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Third Team, making her the first female runner in school history to earn Academic All-America status. In addition to the Academic All-America team, Falvey earned a place on the Capital One Division II Academic All-District 1 Women's Cross Country and Track & Field Team, United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team, CACC Fall All-Academic Team, CACC Spring All-Academic Team, Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women's Cross Country Team, and Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women's Track & Field Team.
In her four years at Philadelphia University, Falvey was a four-time All-CACC runner in cross country, finishing a career-best third three times in the conference championship race. She was tabbed the CACC Rookie of the Year in 2011 after a third-place finish in that season's CACC Championship. In 2014, Falvey came in 25th in the NCAA Division II East Region Championship to earn a place on the All-Region team. As a distance runner for the track team, Falvey's resume includes back-to-back CACC championships in the 5,000, and conference titles in the 10,000 (2015), 1,500-meter run (2014), and the 4x800-meter relay (2014).
Her list of career academic awards is equally as impressive. Along with all of her 2014-15 accolades, Falvey is a two-time member of the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team, a five-time CACC All-Academic (3 fall, 2 spring) selection, and a two-time Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Cross Country Team honoree.
