BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – The Philadelphia University women's cross country team was victorious at the Bryn Athyn College XC Invitational on a rainy, cold Saturday afternoon at Bryn Athyn College.
Philadelphia placed its five scoring runners in the first 12 positions to win the event with 35 points. Chestnut Hill was right behind the Rams in second with 38 points, while Albright had 79 points to take third.
Stephanie Watson (Newport, Vt./North Country Union) led the Rams with a season-best 6-kilometer time of 24 minutes, 31.2 seconds to place third in the 34-runner field. Maria Santangelo (Abington, Pa./AIM Academy) finished in fourth place with a career-best time of 25:11.2. Naomi Scharf (Felton, Pa./Red Lion) crossed the final line in 25:31.2 in come in sixth.
Courtney Lafferty (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena) rounded out the top -10 as she ran a season-low 6K time of 25:31.2. The final scoring spot went to Meghan Reilly (Jenkintown, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) after completing the race in 28:01.9 to finish 12th.
Chestnut Hill's Raquel Lopez won the race with a time of 24:10.1.
Philadelphia returns to Belmont Plateau, its home course, to compete in the Jack Saint Clair Memorial Championship on Saturday, Oct. 10.
